Algeria, Turkey, Japan, the West Coast... Is there some sort of geographical phenomenon going on or something?

I don't understand why it's a "phenomenon". Plates are constantly shifting, and the earth has thousands of earthquakes a day. Some are just bigger than others ;)

Earthquakes happens all the time... it's just mostly happens in non heavily populated area usually. Every once in awhile, by just normal random distribution, you're going to have a series of them happening in more heavily populated areas... just as is happening recently.

East coast too.....they had one in Alabama a few weeks ago at 4.9 richter. (or close to it)
We felt it up here in north GA.
