I bet none of the Bishops would notice it.

You know..I never thought of that but the Catholic church is like the Boy Scouts. The Bishops are the troup leaders and the priests are the BOY scouts...what the hell are the nun's..brownies..Girl Scouts. And they even have cookie and cake sales just like the scouts...hmmm

I was considering posting the same question. Why are nearly all of these molestations being done to boys and not girls in this heterosexual-norm society. Have they been saying that homosexuality is bad even when they, the role models, were practicing it? Does this have any revelence(sp?) to the argument of homosexuality being caused by nature vs. nuture? And since when has the church been above the law? Molesting innocent girls would get me thrown in jail for a good long time - why are they exempt from this?

So many questions....

when you make up a stupid rule like priests can never ever marry, you filter out a whole lot of good normal canidates for the job:p

first 1000 years of the church priests were allowed to marry:p

<< What's with all the priests? Don't forget to read the last paragraph as well. >>

There is something very 'wrong' and 'sick' within the Catholic Church and there has been for decades. My mother remembers a pedophilia scandal involving a Catholic priest from her childhood and we're talking the 1940's. I can't quite put my finger on it, but this tolerance and protection of pedophiles goes all the way to the top, there's no way it cannot.

Maybe there has been this 'secret' culture among Catholic priests for decades where they would use their positions of influence to coax teen boys into have sex, under some twisted rationalization that homosexual activity didn't violate their 'vow' of celibacy. Weren't some militaries throughout history known to have sex with boys when they would be away in long military campaigns? Perhaps this practice was visited upon the Catholic Church a couple centuries ago and became so popular that it has always been practiced under some vail of secrecy. Gives new meaning to the term 'choir boy'.

Whatever it is, it is so deeply protected and practiced within the Catholic priesthood that Cardinals, Bishops, Archbishops, all of them are involved or at the very least they deliberately allow it to go on.

I would love for some highly respected and long-time official within the Catholic church to spill his guts and explain it to us, but that isn't going to happen because these bastards like that Cardinal from Boston value the image of the church more than it does the safety and well-being of children, the sick bastards that all are.

<< I got messed with by a preacher when I was about 11......should I sue? >>

If this is for real do at least check if he is still in office. If he is bring it out in the open, so he will at least not be able to do the same to other kids. Might bring it out anyway, if such things are talked about more it might stop them from doing such things, even if only out of fear of getting caught.

Like Nefrodite said, there's something wrong with priests not being able to marry. How can a priest tell people how to live their life if they have no practical experience?

Also, you'll find abuses of trust everywhere, not just the Catholic church. Look at all the music teachers, etc etc who take advantage of the close contact and authority figure status, and so on.

This also says a lot about beaurocracies--they all tend to cover up problems rather than effectively resolve them.

Organized institutionalized religion is a sham and the huge financial scandal is just below the surface of the staggering breach of morality the Catholic church is twisting thru at this time. You certainly can't trust those people with your kids...why would you trust them with your money?? Start demanding full financial accountability. Find out what they are doing with the collection plate money.

The dumb fool, he should have been a Catholic priest, he'd be an Archbishop or the Pope by now.

i dunno, it means they devote their life to god. their first responsibility should be to god, and their second to the parishioners, imho.

well, catholics do not have any higher percentage of molestor priests... the difference is that most other organizations would have reported this activity... not just relocated priests to be with fresh new children.

There was a judge in Salisbury, Rhodesia who had never driven a car. Someone in his court wanted to know how he could rule on motor accidents without first-hand knowledge of driving. "It's really no handicap," the magistrate explained. "I also try rape cases."

At any rate, don't indict the religion for what's going on, indict the people that try to protect known pedophiles.

One thing about pedophelia is that it is mostly a male deviance. The vast majority of child molestation cases, etc involve an older male rather than an older female. Of course, there are exceptions.
