What's with Acura lately with the bout of ugly designs

I agree. The rear lights/trunk design make all their new cars look like they have a "frowny face" and it is atrociuous.

IMHO, pretty much all Honda/Acuras, with exception to the Civic and MDX, are pretty damn ugly. They may be great, reliable cars, but Honda styling has been crap.

They do look like ass.

The '08 TL was a nice looking car too. I'm glad we got our TL-S and didn't wait for the new one. THe entire look was completely wrecked. You can thank the RDX/MDX for the styling cues for the front end. It's horrible on the SUV's and I have no idea why they thought it would be fine for the cars.

I was going to say it might look better in another color but I pulled up the Acura page and fail. Color selection for the loss. Way to back up edgy styling with the most bland auto color pallet in the universe.

Agreed. I like some of the design elements...but the beaks are just atrocious and the designs are overly busy...not clean enough for me. I've always like Acura's...but my interest in them has really been lost over the years. The latest TSX design has somewhat grown on me since its introduction...but I'd have a hard time buying one over other options out there because of the design.

I also test drove an RDX with my wife a year or so back...and honestly was somewhat disappointed by some of the interior trim for it to be a $40K suv (well nearly).

I'm a Honda fanboi and even I have to admit that the entire crop of Acuras are butt-ugly, and the ZDX might be the ugliest one yet. Most Honda designs take a while to grow on me, but the new ones just aren't growing on me at all.

No idea what the hell they're thinking. Acuras have always been very good cars, if somewhat bland (I have owned an Acura and had several more in the family). Their recent effort at a signature look, though, has made them among the ugliest cars on the market. Now they are essentially locked into that awful beak on all their cars for at least a few years. I am not one to get that hung up on a car's appearance, but the Acuras are so distractingly ugly that I wouldn't be comfortable driving one.

I think the CSX is the only current Acura not to be afflicted with the overly sharp beak at the front end and the sharp edges at the rear. It's pretty hot actually.

Front end
Back end

The TL though, is just hideous .

Unfortunately (or not) the CSX is exclusive to Canada. Here the TSX is the entry-level Acura.

CSX is a glorified civic. Just another way for Honda/Acura to charge more for the same car.

Good point, I forgot about that.

Um, it's similar, but there are some differences. The base model CSX has 15 more hp and 11 more lb/ft torque. It's available with paddle shifters, has leather (only the Civic EX-L has that) and nav.

Whether all of that is worth the price premium is debatable, but it is a slightly different car. That's more than you can say about the old EL, which used the same engine as the Civic at the time and didn't offer many extra features over the Civic.

The only good looking vehicle Honda ever designed was the NSX .. and I think they just got lucky on that one.

It's as if Acura ran with the Cadillac Arts and Science design approach but somehow did it completely wrong.

Maybe this is a plague on lux brands -- BMW ran into the same fugly problem when Chris Bangle designed his Bangle-Butt 7-series & the Z4

People like them, I've seen more than my fair share of new TL's.

It's kind of like the moon landings, 20% of the people in this country think it was/is a hoax. Call me crazy, but I think there's some overlap on those demographics.
