What's with a majority of CNET staff being gay/lesbian?

Firstly, I'm not being homophobic - I'm a card carrying member of New York's gay center, because their civil rights message is ultimately important to me, being a straight guy in a mixed-race marriage. So please don't misread this..

I find it quite.. Interesting.. That a vast majority of CNET's editorial staff is LGBT lately. There's nothing wrong with that in itself, it just seems a little slanted and some of the staff under qualified. I used to be a big fan of Prize Fight (comparing two similar products) but now the videos are awkward, featuring a shirtless, greased up phillipino guy pretending to be a boxer, while babbling tech-nonsense... I'm all for an integrated work place but the lack of diversity and lack of knowledge of some people there make me wonder - either they have to fit a certain quota or they're going for the TMZ/ Perez Hilton audience..

Anyone else notice this?

I don't think I have used or visited CNET in like 6 years.

It should have no bearing on the situation.

If it does, then you are homophobic and please do not express yourself as such here.

cnet started sucking years ago. I don't know anything about the orientation of their staff, but they are terrible at what they do.

My theory is that perhaps there was a discrimination lawsuit and the company went on a hiring blitz, hiring some unqualified people in order to debunk any sense of discrimination... Of course, it's just a theory..

And you would be wrong.

I worked at CNET and loved it there. It's in the heart of San Francisco and attracts all types.

Ha, sorry - the rest of my post seems homophobic, but I'm a fan of true integration, while CNET seems, to me, to sway heavily toward one side (giving a preference to something other than tech-no-how seems biased to me). It's really no big deal, but I miss the days of cnet being run by nerds, regardless of orientation.

I still go to CNET but you're right, the "nerd factor" has gone down quite a bit. I still sometimes find Molly Wood amusing in the Buzz Report (it doesn't hurt that she's cute too) but Prizefight hasn't been the same since Veronica left. I don't have any issues with Tom Merritt's writing but his CNET TV presence isn't all that engaging and don't get me started on Brian Cooley.

As for Brian Tong, I actually think he knows some stuff technically but they push him to do this smarmy TV host gig with antics and it just doesn't work. They're trying to to hard to be entertaining and not giving much "meat" in the message.

Could someone post a link to an example? I'm looking through the site, and I don't notice anything.

I haven't visited CNET in a while, but I never had any impressions one way or the other about their staffing. Is this a recent development?

3.3 for Eee PC's looks? Bastards! It deserves at least a 4.

And who cares about the bezel?

Oh, and in regard to OP, I didn't notice anything actually gay per se. The guy looks/acts a little metro, but I don't see that as a huge issue. It's a little offputting at first because you expect that in fashion or whatever, not so much tech/geek stuff. Whatever, it really doesn't bother me.

The whole boxing thing is cheesy, though. No, I don't need to see that guy (or any anyone, thank you) shadowboxing without his shirt on in a product comparison.

How do you know they're GLAT? Did you bump into a bunch of them in the Castro bars wearing CNET employee tags?
