Whats vista using to steal my hard drive space??

Heres the situation, i have 1.69 GB of free space, deleting something isnt an option, im currently waiting for a 250GB passport drive. I had 3.6GB earlier on today, where the hells that gone?? I havent installed anything.

A friend suggested its that system restore thing, i thought thats pretty plausible, how much space does each restore point take? Is that likely whats stealing the space?

From Windows Help:
How much disk space does System Restore require?

To store restore points, you need at least 300 megabytes (MB) of free space on each hard disk that has System Protection turned on. System Restore might use up to 15 percent of the space on each disk. As the amount of space fills up with restore points, System Restore will delete older restore points to make room for new ones.
