What's up with this!?

I'm not sure why in the world Windows XP has to be so dumb about some things...this has been one of the most annoying things that I have ever encountered with any operating system I've ever worked with.

I'm sure most of you know that you can "hide" icons that are in your task tray by right clicking on the taskbar, clicking properties, and then going to "customize" in the notification area. You can then select which icons you want to hide all the time, which you want to "always show," etc.

I generally have a bunch of things running in my task tray...I use many of the icons quite often, and some much less. Generally when I first customize my computer after a format, I select which ones I want hidden, and which I want to be visible all the time.

Here's the problem: Windows, being the smart operating system that it is, somehow determines that the options I selected for these notification icons is not the best choice of options, and changes them. i.e., the icons that were once set to "always show" turn into "hide when inactive," etc.

This drives me NUTS...I want these icons to be always shown, and for Windows to stop screwing with my setup...

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this annoying problem?

Thanks in advance.
