What's Up With This Router?

I have been trying to get this Netgear/Zyxel router to play nice for over a week. I put my Half-Life server in the DMZ, but am having connection problems. I have had maybe a total of 10 people connect in the past week. I cannot connect to it through the internet, only through LAN. While connecting to a game on the WON list today, it reported my external IP okay but was using a port totally different than what I assigned to Half-Life. Does the router just pick a UDP port and forward it internally on the port I specified? I kinda thought that's what it would do, but that screws up my server if it won't use the UDP port 27015 externally. Any insight here? This might seem trivial to most networking people, but I hate when computer hardware gets the best of me. Any way to force it to use 6003,7002, and 27005-27015 externally through maybe filters?
