Well, probably not counterfeit :p, but I've never seen anything like this. I didnt even know quarters were made this way if in facts its legit.

dude, you got yourself a goldmine! that looks like a quarter that got messed up during minting, which means collectors would pay a lot for it ;)

That's the way they are

IIRC, the center is copper and the outside is like zinc or nickel. Much cheaper :)

All quarters since the early 60's are made of copper with a zinc coating.

That is definitely not a minting error - nothing that mangled would have made it out.

Somebody screwed with it or put it on a train track or something.

If you can find it, then take it to a coin appraiser. They'll be able to tell you if it is a minting error. And minting errors do make it into circulation.

What's the date on that quarter? 197x? You'd think some collector would have spotted it since then if it was a minting error.

Hmm...I have been collecting for a long time and this does not look like a mint error to me. Looks like someone ran a little experiment with it at one time.
