What's up with this city in Florida?

We learned about that town in my Architecture class. It's designed around a neighborhood where people live and then take mass transit to their work. Also it's more environmentally friendly. There's another town in the US that has a similar design to that one.

My cousin lives there. He held a matress up against the back sliding doors during the peak. They held up. All around them looks like a bomb went off, not one light pole left standing, they all went over like pretzels.
