Whats up with these new spyware viruses that hijacks your browser?

A few days ago my browser got hijacked. It keeps setting the homepage to about:blank and then a pop-up comes up that advertises a spyware program. It would keep coming back even though I change the homepage to something else.

Adaware does not detect it even w/ the latest reference file. I've used CWShredder and Spybot but it does not clean it completely. My browser would be hijacked again in a couple of hours. I've been to the CWShredder forum and followed some instruction on what to do w/ the registry and finding the files. All was well for a day and then it returns again.

I cannot get rid of this crap and I'm on the verge of switching to another browser other than IE. Whoever made such a virus/spyware should be hanged and stabbed w/ a spoon.

Really dude, stay away from the pr0n sites.

dude. i might as well throw away my computer then if i can't access porn sites.

Get a real life. 😉 No substitute for the real thing. 😀

Once that junk gets into your IE, you almost have to reforormat/ghost your system.
Problem is that it does not even have to come through porn sites.

**Hugs firefox** Nope, lots of porn sites, and no popups nor spyware. EVER. The only thing I ever get are 'tracking cookies.' meh.

Same here, except that most tracking cookies are blocked by Spyware Blaster.

why not contact the company whos advertisement comes up on ur browser and bitch to them..everyday.....til they resolve your prob

or you could just sue them...its the american way you know😛

Still using IE with all updates and medium security and still not a single spyware program downloaded against my will.

I'm waiting for proof of a site that puts spyware (not viruses) on my machine against my will.

www.mozilla.org

At least try Firefox. I was a die-hard ie6 user, never liked the feel of nutscrape or its startup time despite friends badgering me constantly about using ie. Tried Firefox and was converted in no time, I like its simple UI, excellent popup blocking, while allowing javascript popup site features (the ones you do want) which my old blocker didn't, and tabbed browsing. It's also not tied into your os, which is a plus (*glares at IE6*).

I'm using Mozilla FireFox right now and I'm loving it. I never liked Netscape so I was hesitant to use it but I'm glad I tried. Things seem to load a lot faster.

I also agree... other than some cookies discovered by spybot or adaware as "spyware", I've yet to see spyware get installed without my knowledge (except when installed by the kids or wife.)

Can anyone suggest a link to a site that's going to install spyware on my computer??

bambam I got something like that last month, check your task manager processes for something like FtR2fwqsh.exe random letters, if its there terminate it and check your windows/system32 dir for system-hidden suspicious looking exe's . good luck

Yeah, the nice thing about Firefox or whatever is that if you screw something up somehow, you can just shift-delete the lot and start from scratch. All settings are stored in a total of two folders. With IE it's a little more complicated 😉
