What's up with the usage of the word, "Communist"?

I've noticed recently that whenever we have a thread about our nation and it's policies, or something like that, inevitably, somebody will pop up with some comment accusing those who question U.S. policy of being "Communist". I wouldn't have a problem, if the statements being made really did show a spirit of communism, but often times, I get the feeling the word "Communist" is being used to describe anybody who dares question how our country operates.

Is it just me, or is this the mark of an idiot? I mean, granted, I've been known to call people "Communist goat suckers" in jest, but it seems like some people use it in anger.

I smell a Red. :|

j/k ... the word communism is generally associated with "bad" or "evil." People make it a misnomer, though.

And no, I'm not a commie, although I do/did play Mario.

Almost always out of context. Karl Marx rolls over in his grave everyday.

If you watch old US propaganda videos then you know why, famous videos like "How to spot a Communist" and "Duck and cover".

Anyone have a link to that page that had a HUGE amount of old videos from that time? I have two of them, "Duck and cover" and I think "Mr. Atom".

Most people are too uneducated to express their views in an intelligent manner.

Before shooting off a quick reply, they should stop to think what they're REALLY saying. ....But how many people really do that anymore?

yup, just ignorance. generally its usage is included with some other personal attacks since the user has no valid arguements of his own. its like bsod in windows:) dunno what else to say about it.

Around here, we called socialism "communism-lite". And I hope Engels, Marx, Stalin and Mao are all spinning their graves, with embarrassment for promoting such bankrupt ideals that grossly misread the nature of the human condition. :p

Beyond that, communist is carelessly tossed around like any political term; liberal, conservative, fascist, etc, most of which are misplaced.
