Whats up with the self-defeating, masochistic attitude here?

I see people from both sides of the aisle constantly deriding themselves and this board.

Why?

Honestly it really bothers me. Look: whether you are Republican or Democrat we both have the same goal: to better America and for some the world. We may have totally different ways of doing the above but I believe we have the same intention. Discussing issues, talking to others all over America and all over the world is great; to look down on that is too give into the ATOT. People here care, think and vote. Thats great. Stop letting people tell you you are a lesser man for doing that.

Deriding someone else's views is not masochistic or self-defeating. Deriding one's own views would be.

Given two opposing views on how to solve a problem, both views obviously cannot be implemented. One proposed solution must win, the other must lose. We can't all just get along.

i support your cause, but there are a few who spoil the milk in here with their condescending remarks and namecalling.
i would appreciate their points much more if they weren't hostile.

I'm not saying get along. What I'm saying is that the OT constantly derides THIS board and many times the members here go along with it. I've seen both sides do it. All I'm saying is be confident in yourself and don't think of yourself as a loser just because you care about the way your country is heading.

I don't know if it's the hostility so much as how certain people make it so personal. Instead of discussing the topic at hand and simply debating the issue, someone will inevitably say "this is what I hate about..." and go off on a general rant against the "other side". The problem is that this makes the issue too broad, how do you discuss effective ways to bring more Muslims around to our side (to use an example) when the debate has morphed into whether or not someone hates America?

Some people are so rabid

AND

We are discussing what some of us consider to be State Sanctioned Mass Murder in my name and yours and with my tax dollars

Some people in here are homicidal maniacs.. wanting to kill them all and let their invisible god sort them out... and just cannot fathom that the survivors of murdered family members would ever want to get revenge.. afterall.. we removed Saddam, right...

It is sad that our Politicians are just a mirror of ourselves...

Weak attempts to denigrate and dehumanize other people for their personal views, like the post above, are what makes P&N suck.

It's the same kind of wild-eyed, screaming at the top of your lungs, appel-to-emotion tactic that abortion protestors use - "BABY KILLER!!!!1111" - to do the very same thing.

Stop that kind of BS, discuss things rationally without over-emoting, and this place wouldn't be nearly so bad.

I disagree. I think the diversity here is what makes P&N interesting. I cant stand the "youre an American hating, terrorist, if you dont support Bush Co crap," but the parroting is expected.

Just wait a while and you won't have to search Homercles337. They repeat it often enough.

Gee. Your characterization of dahunan's post itself seems a tad over the top.

Ain't that ironic.

People hate themselves. They grab something out there that they are taught is good by the people who taught them to hate themselves and identify with that so they can protect themselves from the self hate teaching source. Then somebody comes along ans says the thing they identify with sucks. It's like pulling their pants off in a crowd.

It was supposed to be "over the top," seeing as I was describing a group that uses that tactic with sensationalistic words like "BABY KILLER"...just as dahunan had to use words like "State Sanctioned Mass Murder" and "homocidal maniacs."

Glad you caught the context, even if you don't seem to comprehend why it was used that way.

Haha...

And you don't think you're a contributing member to the atmosphere you mention?

Answer honestly, now. I'd rather not have to go and dig up some of your previous posts.
