Is there some sort of law or decree (edict, ordinance, proclamation, mandate, edict) that 90% of barns must be red?

In the old days, blood from slaughtered animals was the cheapest paint to use. They did not care about the colour, they just needed something to protect the wood from rotting. I just made that up, but it kinda sounds legit.

that has a lot of bs reasons. a large barn a sign of wealth? because wealthy farmers used blood?

I asked a old farmer why red. For something that is out in the sun all the time and so big it's the best color that takes a long time ot fade. it was also cheap.

as for barns being big? they were big because they had to be. they held animals, equipment, and hay etc.

Actually you're not wrong. Blood & rust were throw into the paint mixes (srs). Plus it just looks cool

from old timers i know they all say the rust.

most say the blood is a myth. blood was used in many things to use it as a paint base was a waste.

It is to mark the brothels. You should step inside one sometime, you are missing out. Some of the women can be a little hairy..and have an extra nipple or two...but...

Here's a clue: It's full of stars....

I call BS on 90% of barns being red. :|

In Kentucky the barns where they dry out the weed are black.

Canadian barns are white with green trim.

Red paint was the cheapest of all paints way back when, so that's what they used. Now it's just stuck on people that barns are red.

If barns were white, they'd lose them in the snow. Plus, hematite is about the cheapest pigment in existence.

Uh no, the huge majority of the old barns here are red with white trim.

Newer buildings (usually tin siding, not wooden, are often white), or other colours.

It's so you don't hit it with the tractor when you are shit-faced. Can't miss a big red barn even when you are three sheets to the wind.
