You guys at MS suck... what's up with the startup folder? all the crap that you want access to is hidden else where. Even after going through the registry run or runonce folders, crap you don't want started still starts. There are like a 3 or 4 other locations for startups. WTF... Eating up resources is the most primitive form of a virus, like email bombs... <hehe those were so fun> MS programmers really do suck....

Aside from the whining... anybody know a free program or a best method to figuring out what's starting up and who the culprit is? So, you can terminate that resource hogging bastard.

Thanks in Advance

Yeah it's called MSCONFIG. It's included with Windows 98, 98SE, ME, and XP. If you are running 2k you can use the one from XP just fine. It even tells you where the application is starting from (HKLM, HKCU, Startup).

A simple 30 second search on google would find all this informtion.

I have to agree, msconfig shouldn't be hidden away it should be right there in the system tools.
also the msconfig tool falls short, that's way you see a lot of third party startup managers.

frankly, microsoft should focus on the Operating System and get users the tools they need to keep it in good working order.
Not bells and whistles.
