what's up with RAM prices? $275-300 for 2GB?

I thought prices were supposed to come down like they have with flash memory. When will we see decent DDR2 2x1GB kits (like Corsair XMS pairs) for under $250? Will it reach $100 per GB anytime soon?

That $275-300 price hit is enough to make me consider just upgrading my current rig's processor to an X2 and 2GB of DDR budget RAM to my rig which should give it all the performance it can get. Saves me ~$100 over DDR2 RAM and $300 for not having to buy a C2D motherboard.

With the way prices have gone up I'm glad I got in on the 2 gig of OCZ platinum DDR2-800 deal back in August ($130 after rebates, both rebates came yesterday).

I noticed that too. FS/T used to be full of threads with people selling 2x 1GB DDR2 SODIMMs for $130-$150. Now they're all gone, and I'm going to be stuck with retail. 🙁

Don't RAM prices always go up this time of year?

I've got somewhere between 512MB and 1.5GB of DDR400 sitting around. Unfortunately it isn't ECC. 🙁
