Whats up with my new Crucial memory?

I just got 512 mb of Crucial PC2700 memory today and it shows up as only 256mb of it. I updated the bios and made sure the memory was in tight. I have no other memory in and my OS s Windows ME. Help!

Is it one 512 stick or 2x256 sticks? Just because it "looks" seated properly doesn't mean it is. Folks here can tell you that many memory problems have been resolved by reseating the stick(s). I recently bought another 256 stick to add to my other 2x256 sticks. I booted up and only had 512. Shutdown, reseat extra stick, boot up...768.

Now if this is 1x512 stick, then yeah, you most likely got sent the wrong part. Look at the sticker on the stick and verify it says 512.

On the subject of Crucial Memory. I have a 512MB Stick, what are the timings suppose to be?

Set your memory to "By SPD" in the BIOS. That's what the timings are "supposed" to be. Of course you can change the BIOS to "User Defined" and make them whatever you want.

Ooops, I made a dumb suggestion 😱 don't mind me 😀

If it's Crucial, the label will say what its model number and capacity are. What's it say?

It says on the label I got one Crucial 512 mb stick of 184 Pin Dimm 64Mx64 DDR Pc2700 memory. I have an Asus A7V333 motherboard. The serial number is CT6464Z335. 16T3 , is that the serial for a 512 mb stick?
