I just swapped out my plextor cdrw drive for a new verbatim cdrw drive. Everything seems to be okay except now my cd-rom no longer works!

Running xp-pro and didn't change anything else. The drive shows up everywhere, but when I go to check the files on the cd I keep getting a dialog box telling me to insert a cd.

The drive "lights up", and the disc does spin, but the data isn't read.

So far I've:

changed cables
uninstalled and reinstalled the drive via device manager
reinstalled the driver
blasted the drive with air
tried different discs, both data and retail music cds.

What else should I look at?

Thanks!

I had a problem similar to that make sure that the cables are connected correctly and also make sure that the jumper are correct.

I hope this helps!

Problem solved!

Jumpers were okay, but the cable wasn't. I had the master cd-rw on the middle connector of the ide cable. This worked fine with the other cd recorder, but not with the new one. After I swapped the connectors with the cd-rom now on the center plug everything works fine now.

Thanks for the help!
