Woke up today and when I grabbed the door knob of my bedroom door to open it I felt a sharp pain in the joint area of my index finger and I pulled my hand away. All morning that joint area of my right index finger has been sensitive and when I turn the knob of the faucet, or maybe pick up a cup or pull something that joint area on my finger gets a sharp pain

What is this arthritis or something? I think the pain is predominately coming from that tendon or ligament- that wraps over my knuckle. That seems to be where the sharp pain comes from

I am under 30, work at a computer all day so that finger is my left mouse button clicker finger and of course heavy typing so it gets a lot of use.

might have sprained a ligament. it happens a lot as you get older. (at least to me anyway :)) I would go have it checked out by a physician.

My guess is the pain will fade and the only thing that will remind you of it later today is this thread.

Did it just start this morning? Perhaps you were sleeping on it wrong? Is your wrist swollen at all? Could be carpal tunnel too. Take some Motrin and see if the pain subsides.

yeah it just started this morning- was fine last night and never felt this before on any finger

my wrist is not swollen and if i have any fear of carpal tunnel its on my left hand because while it does not swell it does get inflamed and feels hot to the touch- but that's another problem...

it is still bothering me, like right now I went to unscrew the cap of my thermos and felt a sharp pain.

i really would like to just chop it off right now it's really annoying :)

Is Burnout Paradise a code word for an activity involving his finger and his anus? :p

Carpal tunnel is likely going to have accompanying numbness/tingling in the thumb/index/middle finger.

You're pretty young for arthritis. It could be something as stupid as sleeping on it funny. I developed this weird aching pain in the last joint of my pinky, always worst in the morning. I finally had a eureka moment when I woke up one morning on my stomach with my hand twisted up and the pinky bent backward at an extreme angle at the last joint. Ouch.

I had a similar issue with my index finger on my left hand a several months ago. Happened after I helped my aunt move, was carrying some furnature and my wrist got twisted kinda funny and I hurt the side of my hand.
For about a week or two my hand was sore.
Then things seemed normal for a while.
Then, one day I was picking up my phone and stretched my index finger all the way out and and it hurt very sharply when I bent my hand a certain way. No numbness or tingling, just sharp pain. It seemed to happen on and off for about a month or so. It hasn't bugged me or happened since December.

I am pretty sure my problem was a ligament injury of some type. I'd suspect that before arthritis or carpel tunnel given the description you've provided. But I'm no Doc, gotta talk to one of them to be sure.

Just stick it up your ass for a while and let the warmth soothe it. That should fix you up in a day or 2.

the human body never ceases to amaze

so my finger was bothering me all day yesterday- it never went away even up to late night. i didnt take anything for it or do anything special, just went to sleep and this morning it's like there was nothing ever wrong. it feels fine no matter what movement I do- pulling, twisting, pushing...

good stuff.

HAHA, next time it happens this is what I'm doing. OP, it wont even take a day to heal after this.
