Whats up with malaria?

they are down for maintenance or something so i switched my resources back over to Einstein 🙂 gotta keep the computer busy 😛

Yeah.. I just got home from work and 2 of my quads have nothing going on....but the others have a full queu. I restarted BOINC to see if I could get more WUs, but nothing... if it doesn't send me some stuff soon I'll switch them back over to SoB...

Nothing in the forum over there but I did post a message asking if anyone is seeing the same WU shortage. I do have one quad with just 2 WU's in the que.

Look in your messages and see if you have:

Scheduler request failed: HTTP file not found

messages in there. I've seen it off and on, and it can wack the box into deferring communications...

Mine are all fully loaded. Maybe you should up the amount of days of work that BOINC keeps in stock. Mine is set to three, so these temporary hick-ups can't trouble me.

OK -- what's up??? :|;

My Intel machine has 1 WU ready to report. It's working on 2 others. There are none in reserve. When I attempt to update, the communication is deferred for an hour.

I have one core free on my AMD machine. I just started BOINC. There are no WU's. When I attempt to update, I get the following messages:

2/16/2008 4:07:24 PM|malariacontrol.net beta|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. Requesting 43202 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
2/16/2008 4:07:29 PM|malariacontrol.net beta|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks
2/16/2008 4:07:29 PM|malariacontrol.net beta|Message from server: Server can't open database
2/16/2008 4:08:49 PM|malariacontrol.net beta|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 43202 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
2/16/2008 4:08:54 PM|malariacontrol.net beta|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks
2/16/2008 4:08:54 PM|malariacontrol.net beta|Message from server: Server can't open database

Again -- what is up??? I think I'll check the website. Maybe there's a message somewhere.

OK -- I just tried to visit the website -- I could not. The following appeared in my browser window.

malariacontrol.net
Unable to connect to database - please try again later Error: 1040Too many connections

So -- are they down, or are they experiencing a denial of service attack?

Either way -- they're down.

Mother frigger. (I hope I don't get banned for that.)

Edit: I'm crunching Rosetta till this clears up.

I'm not sure what's wrong. I haven't had any trouble getting to the project web site and all of my computers (that are running Malaria) have been downloading new work normally.

I keep getting the same message.... along with "No new work available" in the BOINC window.

Had my queue set on the quads so that they would have 3 days worth of work to do... noticed yesterday that it kept getting shorter and never replenished- and now they just have completed work in them.

I'll keep checking in, but back to SoB for the moment...

OK, I take that back, at least partially. 😛

A few of my computers are still getting work normally. Some are getting the database error when requesting new work.

My laptop is getting these strange "optimization" work units that will not crunch, and my desktop isn't getting any new WUs. And I can't remote into my other machine, so I don't know what's up with it. I was getting worried that all of this was due to my name change; I figured I messed something up.

There's no progress shown for those optimization work units. However, if you let them run, they will complete after a couple of hours. Don't close BOINC. It appears that there are no checkpoints. If you close and reopen BOINC, they start over from the beginning.

OK -- I was just able to upload my completed WU's.

😀

They still aren't giving us much work. I think that I have 2 WU's -- 1 for each machine.

😕

Maybe we're making some progress.

The website says "to many connections"

I think we are out producing their project 😉 Full steam ahead!

I can't upload WU's from several boxes, some of which are set to expire.

I'm bailing on MC until they address their issues. I'll jump right back on again, but the lack of any official response is.... annoying. It's broke. Please fix it. 🙂

yea, I was thinking about doing the same thing. This issue has been going on for days now it seems.

They released a new version of the optimizer & everything seems to be ok now.

I'm hanging in there but I understand the frustrations and why some are moving on to other projects.🙁

Let's hang in there. On the local preferences we can change the additional work buffer to 4.00 days and load up the cache so that we have plenty of work in case there are problems again. Then when the BOINC manager is able to communicate with the project, all that work is sent in. It works!!

Edit: I know that I am not a real strong producer compared to a lot of you guys -- I just have 2 machines. I also know that many of you have lives and don't have the time to babysit your boxes. But consider this. I sent in 41 completed tasks when the server came back on line early this morning. I know that my total credit was reported as 5260 about 12 hours ago, but now, Free-DC reports my tc to be 5720. If I visit my account at malaria control, my tc is 6167, and I have a pending credit of 458. All of that will show up in a day or two.

What else can I say?
