Even though Opeth is melodic metal and not hardcore, I believe their vocalist Mikael Akerfeldt said it best when he declared that (paraphrased) "screaming is the most aggressive type of singing there is" and hardcore/metal is aggressive music. Personally, I love screaming/growling because I think it sounds awesome; you get a much different sound than normal singing and it sounds almost inhuman. Try it sometime; you might just gain some respect for the singers who can do that for song after song without coughing up blood.

Hardcore doesn't have screaming and yelling.
It has stupid intense beats that pound and pound. And maybe some samples and female vocals.

Well, my co-worker called it hardcore and that's how I heard it being described before, just a bunch of yelling with hard rock/metal.

lol, looking back at my title, I can easily see how you made that mistake. Talking about the other type hardcore would've been an easy way for me to get beaten by the ban stick.
