What's up with gas prices lately?

Last week I was paying $0.859 / litre and now it is at $.0719. That is a huge drop and it has been like this for over a week now.

Normally the price goes up half way through the week.

ANyone else seeing this trend?

It makes no sense, gas has been in the forty dollars(US??)/barrel and yet the prices are less than they were initially when gas prices spiked and then I think the oil price was still in the upper $30/barrel range.

Yeah I saw a Petro Canada @ 72.2 this evening!

They thought they could ride the "omg prices are going up" wave, but they must have seen a dip in sales and realized people weren't willing to pay that much. So, down go the prices and they still make a profit, just not a killing.
