What's up with games these days...They're killing the PC as gaming platform!!!

I just bought NFS - Hot Pusuit 2. Huge disapointment. I've really enjoyed all the NFS titles until this rushed and unpolished POS. I was sick of it only after 15 minutes, and all my friends felt the same way. So we played some NFS 3, now that's a game, fun like hell, obviously done by people who cared about the game itself, not only for the easy $ the NFS name will make:|
And the list goes on - NHL 2003 (buggy as hell, lags on high end machines, step backwards from 2002), UT 2003 (no balance in weapons, UT still a better game, graphics ain't all), GTA 3 (great game, but needs a patch so much it hurts. Even more frustrating because the game is really cool).
Where are the games of the caliber of System Shock 2, Thief, Undying, NFS series, TOCA 2, Colin McRae 1&2, Driver, MDK...now when I want to play something cool I play it on my PS2.

That's pretty much the crux of the problem: crappy ports of console games.

everything else works beter on the console format.

What I don't understand is why EA ported the Xbox version instead of the PS2 version when EVERYONE agrees the PS2 version is much better. Morons.

I was going to bring something up similar. My problem is with "games" that are being brought out that are merely just updates to the original. No real originality, no new defining graphics, no real reason to buy the game.

For instance, both Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 and Stronghold: Crusader have nothing more than a few new missions and a couple more items for use. The interface is the same, the graphics are the same and practically the storyline is the same, yet they shipped out as new games.

When the hell did it become wise business to charge for updates?

There are still great PC games like warcraft3 mentioned before me. I tried the demo to the new NFS game and compared to my PS2 version although the graphics were significantly better the gameplay was mind numbingly bad.

have to agree, good pc games are few and hard to come by these days...
my last "ooOOH" was Medal of Honor, thoroughly enjoyed...
NOLF2 is OK, fun, not great.

In the meantime, WC3, TheThing, UT2003 were kinda letdowns...
so i'm back to PS2 gaming where there are nonstop goodies.

The latest FIFA and Madden on PC have been more than solid IMO. I needed to get a $30 controller to play it half-way decent though. There's got to be something better than 3DFX Hammerhead/Logitech Wingman Rumblepad/MS Sidewinder.

Because it's not a port? The XBox is a PC, so there was very little porting to be done.

Rewriting the PS2 optimized code for PC would have been a huge project.

I don't play near as much as I used to and I tend to lean more toward FPS style games anyway since I don't have the patience for RPG. But I too have been a bit disappointed with some of the latest games. UT2K3 was a huge disappointment and while I thoroughly enjoyed MOHAA's single player, its multiplayer wasn't near as fun. Likewise, RTCW has pretty fun multiplayer, but rather dull single player. I heard NOLF was fun, but I tried it and just couldn't get into it. I now find myself going back to Half-Life mods again like Day of Defeat and TFC (I even started replaying the original Half-Life single player again awhile back.) Thief 3 can't come out soon enough in my opinion.

They ported the XBOX version because it was easier to port....XBOX = modified version of Windows OS.. PS2 = modified Linux type OS.
Management decided to save that good ole stuff called money by doing it that way...thus ruining the sales in return for lower budget numbers to make them look good and the programmers look even worse. :D

I think the problem is Electronics Arts. Years ago, they used to produce some of the best games, sports wise for sure. After they built their name, they stopped releasing quality games. In fact, many of their recent releases had features stripped out from previous releases. What they have to realize that people just want a fun, long lasting game. To most people, graphics mean nothing if the gameplay is superb. EA just doesn't care. There are communities out their who voice their opinion, most of it being very common requests, and yet EA neglects them. They never release patches to their rushed games. They focus on silly aspects of the game like "putting your face in the game" instead of deeper gameplay. They neglect the little details that make a game great. Instead of worrying about being the first game on the shelf, they should care about being the first *good game on the shelf. No more do people buy what they see, they research it. Reviews for games are ten-fold, and can be found anywhere. Unfortunately too many people focus on the legacy instead of the quality...

You should try out Counter strike :p its still the best online FPS game. Check out the amount of servers hosting. Warcraft III is great but gets old quick.

That's crack you smoked.

Anything a console can do, a PC can do better.
