Torrent site Demonoid downed
Canadian copyright cops suspected

POPULAR CANADIAN Bittorrent tracker site, Demonoid appears to have been shut down by the Canadian Recording Industry Association.
Both the tracker and the website have been unresponsive for nearly 24 hours. Here at the INQ that just means that we have had a server upgrade, but in Torrent land it is seen as being a sign of doom.
It seems that Demonoid?s Canadian ISP pulled the plug after being pressured by the CRIA. The ISP has told world plus dog that it will shut down the site if it receives any complaints.
According to TorrentFreak the server is still pinging but the ISP might have everything firewalled.
So far there has been no word from Deimos, the founder and the head admin of the site.
Demonoid has been walloped by the anti-piracy crowd before. It shifted its servers from the Netherlands to Canada in June after its ISP was served with legal threats.
In that case the anti-piracy crowd BREIN had asked the ISP to take Demonoid offline and hand over the administrator?s personal details.
It is fairly likely that we have not seen the last of Demonoid. We hear Russia is very pretty at this time of year. µ
