What's up with Dell?

First, they screw up on the new 30GB iPod orders. I ordered one on 05/15 and still have no indication that it will ship out. Then, on 05/22, I ordered a Latitude D600. The estimated ship date was set for 06/06. Today, I find out that they are delayed and will not be able to ship before 06/13. There were no reported delays at the time I placed the order nor was I warned that any of the parts I requested would be difficult to get. So, why am I still waiting for it to be shipped out? I needed this notebook ASAP, and now, more than two weeks later, I'm back to square one. Right now, I'm strongly considering spending $1000+ more on an IBM ThinkPad T40P, which is what I originally wanted to buy anyway.

Anyway...just needed to complain a little...

Forgive me, but I'm having trouble connecting the dots here. You ordered an iPod from Dell? I didn't know that Apple bought them out... ;)

Well, it's not just you. My friend ordered an A70 from Dell about three weeks ago and there is no sign that it's shipping anytime soon.

Nothing new, I've waited over a month before for an order.

I was surprised on Thursday when my Dimension 4600 shipped the same day I ordered it.

Call them up and see what's going on. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll knock something off your total...

For those that were not aware, Dell is one of the largest Apple resellers.

The only orders I have ever received from Dell in a timely fashion were servers and high end work stations ordered through my Dell Small Business rep.

They have screwed up EVERY personal order I have ever placed.

I would never buy from them again, except that the owner of the company loves Dell servers :(

for such a huge company, their backorder status notifications and updates suck ass. an item will be backordered for a month, you'll get it in two weeks, and then get notification a week after you get the item

This was a small business order, which makes matters worse.

I can't believe that they're this bad. I don't even mind the ipod. I understand that sort of mistake, because it's a third-party product and they sold it at a price that was too low, probably, but I can't understand it with one of their own products, which they mass-produce on a regular basis. The 1.6Ghz P M had been out for some time prior to my order, as had all of the other parts...I don't understand what they could possibly be missing...

I don't know if I should cancel the order or call them and bitch and try to get a discount or something.

Bottom line: I need a laptop!

You will just be more frustrated by calling them up with their online phone system, the worst is being transferred to an offshore locations in India. :)

Thanks for clearing that up. (gets back on short bus) ;)

Personally haven't had any problems with Dell. I've ordered from them a couple of times (wife's notebook and a set of sweet Harman Kardon speakers with a sub) and I've used quite a few Dells at work without any problems with the systems themselves.

Maybe we should shut the windows on the bus. No one's complaing about the systems themselves (least not here), it's their ordering and delivery process that sucks the big one. And I have to agree; I've placed about five or six orders with Dell in the past few months and there's ALWAYS some delay. They try and dodge and say it's up to the manufacturer (of third party items) to update the website, but that's sh!te. And trying to actually talk to a person, much less one who speaks English, is like trying to suck a watermelon through a straw. I'm finished ordering from them, even if they do have good prices. Screw'em.

Yargh....what I meant to say was that I haven't had any problem with their customer service or ordering and delivery, in addition to the systems. Guess I'm in the minority with this opinion though.

Usually if you dial "0", you're given an operator...
