I was watching Swordfish, and they had this sequence where the guy creates a worm, and its all graphical and crap, like code is actually like that. I mean just like in the movie hackers, same old crap. When will they portray the real deal? Btw, anyone watching the game, sixers own! Go Iverson!

Just so geeks like us cant point it out. I hated "hackers" but wargames was entertaining. The net was pretty dumb, too.

The real deal is boring and not nice to look at. The stuff on hackers, except for their kick ass gui's, were done for effect.

The only "real" hacker movie I've seen so far was "Anti-trust".
It's the only movie which has even come close to what real hackers are.

And I really thought it was awesome...even bought the DVD.

Seen the movie "hackers". Umm....you mean to tell me there were actually hackers in there???

The VAST majority of movies are exaggerated... you really think a lone soldier can take on an entire Soviet battalion himself (Rambo)... do you really think a 9mm actually holds about 50 rounds? Do you really think a car blows up when it crashes? Do you really think it's possible to capture and save another person falling from the sky?

Without eye candy, it wouldn't appeal to the masses. Face it, we techies are outnumbered by the illiterate, and that's where the money is, hence the fake crap.

hackers was the worst, especially when hes "hacking" and hes flying through those rectangle boxes on the screen like its some video game. hackers 2 takedown was good, exaggerated, but at least based on a true story

When they were showing application code in the movie "Anti-trust", it
wasn't html!

I do have to admit that the html code that they used...
well..some of it i didn't recongize(in the credits...only time I saw html). but the code he worked on in the movie, it looked an awful lot like C. I'll have to rewatch the movie to make sure.

This is nothing new. I remember me and my breadboarding buddies laughing our geekish @sses off in the late '60s at some of the nonsense involving computers in the original Star Trek series. Somehow these sophisticated alien machines became so bamboozled that they literally blew themselves up if Spock presented them with a simple paradox.

Movie simulations of damned near everything looks hokey to people who really know a lot about the thing being simulated. For a great example, consider the typical Hollywood portrayal of sex. ;)

IT'S FOR EFFECT. It's not supposed to represent the screen. It's supposed to represent what's going on in his head. That's where there's the mathmatical figures and whatnot. Don't take everything you see so literally...

Not just Hollywood...the entire porn industry... :)

Wargames and Sneakers are great movies.

Worst depiction ever: when the girl in Jurassic Park navigates through a bunch of on-screen boxes to lock the doors of the park; "I know this! This is a UNIX system." LOL

Hackers was lame, so was The Net...not only in the way they portray the way things are done, but also just adding to the whole stereotype that all hackers or those that are just curious have malicious intent...
their portrayal of how things are done is all just to satisfy the majority of viewers that aren't tech savy or know nothing about coding or what real hacking is like...
Wargames and Sneakers are the only ones i liked...AntiTrust was ok...
all IMHO...
