What's up with all the Steam game updates today?

I just fired up Steam today and had 14 downloads which is strange. Why are there so many updates today?

Good to know. I was kind of worried it had something to do with drm or a major security issue.

I had 92 yesterday...but most looked like they are 0 bytes.

Mine vary from 9.8MB to 2 that are 600MB + but the latter were normal updates for killing floor 2 and rocket league.

You will be redownloading the "_CommonRedist" folder of any game you have installed (assuming they have one). The folders were deleted through those 0KB updates that went up during the last Steam maintenance. It was clarified here by a community moderator.
