Why does she have to cry about something in every song? She must write the most depressing songs ever.

She uses her music as an outlet and a form of self-expression. I can't stand music that is contrived and fake.

Shows you how much you know. That's not her song...it's Luther Vandross's song.

I guess you're too young to have listened to The Cure?

I wasn't talking about THAT song. They play a song of hers on VH1 all the time, where she meets a guy in a diner and asks him out. And there there were a couple of other songs before that.

Exactly ! That's why MetallicA has gone triple platinum on their albums. ;)

Before she became so famous, she had excellent grammar and spoke very well. Now that the spotlight is on her, she uses too much slang and seems to only know ebonics. It bothers me for some reason.

i bet you like to listen to bands like n'sync and the backstreet boys huh..... you need some more pop culture garbage fed to you by MTVizzle fo shizzle....

you dont have to like her music, that is your right and in your tastes, however, i do not believe that there is any way that a person could make a logical argument saying that she does not have talent, dedication, or a reason to write songs that are the way they are.

::thinks back on the days when you could say "Yeah I heard them on MTV" and that was socially acceptable::

ahh how the times have changed :frown:

Don't want to go too deep into this, but I'll make a quick comment to your reply.

1) I haven't watched a minute of MTV in 5 years
2) I do not like any boy bands, or in fact any other "pop wonders"
3) I never said that Alicia Keys is not talented, I said that most of her song are sad and depressing. Reminds me of a simpsons episode, where the Jazz guy tells Lisa: "Lisa, jazz isn't about making yourself feel better, it's about making others feel worse"

Funny you should mention that because the one Alicia Keys song I've heard "You don't even know my name" was from MTV.

Her song that is extremely popular now on the radio sucks. I can't stand when they play that part where she is like talking to the guy over the phone. That song is annoying, very annoying.

Hey, Michael, this is the waitress from 51st and 3rd, you know, the one with the brades. You always come in at lunch and order a special. Well, I know women usually don't do this, but I was wondering if you'd like to get together sometime, and you know, maybe get a cup of coffee....

Which song(s)? I think it's an emotionally balanced album really, save for songs 4 and 9 (I don't know the names).
