say i have a ~$100 item to sell.
i'll start the pricing @ $1 and explicitly state shipping is $100.
that way i can avoid ebay fees.
 
well, the idea that the eBay rules prohibit excessive S&H would be something. They can also ban you for fee avoidance if they catch you.
 
Well, as a potential buyer, that'd be a turnoff for me, unless you a) Had high feedback already and b) stated that you would refund the shipping fee as well, if the product turned out to be defective.

where do they state this in their policy?
 
It's done pretty frequently (look for DVD media, $3.99 buy it now for 25 discs + ~$24 shipping & $10 handling).

Technically ebay could shut down your account, but it would have to be pretty blatant.

An understanding of what the T&C of eBay are. A moral standard a little higher than a common con artist. A respect for the "Rules". Of course, moral character and the backbone to stand up for what is right and proper are so "Out of Style" it may be lost on you.
