What's this system worth????

OK, so I've built this guy who I'd call "friend", but lightly. (More like acquaintance.)

I usually build him cheap $325-$350 systems (Sempron/Celeron, 512, cdrw, 80gb, floppy, Kb, ms, etc.). He likes 'em 'cuz I make 'em work fast, clean, all setup the way he likes, etc.

Lately he's asking me for *higher end* and I've kept it at $350. Now, his son (21yrs old?) asked me for something a bit higher.

Here's what I built him...................

Sempron 2800/754 (retail box)
ECS 755 mobo
512 OCZ value ram (pc3200)
Seagate 120mb 72K HD
NEC 3520 D/L 16x dvdr
ATI 9100 128mb AGP
$50 case (window, front lcd....hip, but nothin' fancy)

Anybody care to throw out a # for what *YOU* would charge for building a system like this??

If you want some help on individual prices, I can offer 'em, but I'm curious to see what folks will come up with as a "parts" total and a "labor" total.

TIA!

I recently traded a machine almost as good as that one, 64mb g-force 4 card was about the only difference for 500$ (Ernest money on the house I just bought)

I'm figuring you're getting one of those fry's combos?

Anyway
100 for motherboard/cpu
60 for ram
70 for hd
50 for dvd writer
60 for card
60 for case

Thats around 400 not including software. I'd charge another 50 bucks for putting it together? At least, thats just what I think you should charge for it, considering those are your prices (I just rounded up some for any taxes, shipping, etc charges) and I don't wanna build a comp for anyone but family.

OK, cool.

I wanted to be sure I was still givin' him a deal, but he *wanted* higher-end (but not killer) yet acted like my price was kinda' steep.

For the record, I charged him $400.

I figured I had *at least* $300 into it for parts alone & probably closer to $350 and that's only 'cuz I had picked up soooo many smokin' deals along the way.

I think I got the RAM for like $30
Card like $40
HD $40
etc. etc.

Otherwise, I'm sure if I added it up, I'd have $400 in *parts* alone eeeeasy on newegg or somebody like that.

I figured I'd do a "favor/buddy" system for $50 of my time, gas, & labor but nothin' less. I think the guy thought it would be like $350 but I thought that was just a little too much of a system for $350, plus I did put a good few hours work into it.

Ya, I don't try to get too into breakin' it down like that.

I just wanted to be fair to him.

I think these guys sometimes just see these Dell ads & figure that's the going rate, but while his dad knows I build him a much better system (even if just for being *CLEAN* from day one w/ no bloatware) but the son didn't.

For the record, too, I almost broke down & went $375 just 'cuz I felt bad.......(I get whimpy in situations like that & sell myself short sometimes)...........but I even went to the point of putting in rounded cables (cheap, but still) and tried to make it look really *neato* so he'd think it was *cool*.

My conscience can rest now......(LOL).........thanks guys!!

Sorry if this wreaked of 'price check', but I honestly just wanted "what would you do" feedback & that's what I got.....(from some...har har)

Thanks again, gang!!
