Whats this Purevideo all about?

I seen a post about new beta drivers with Purevideo support.

I just got Fairuse v2.1 to try it out for encoding some DVDs. I used AutoGK with Xvid for all of my other ones, but I'm willing to try out h.264/AVC if it offers better quality for similar file size. It seems the only downside to it is it requires a high end computer for smooth playback, and that its only playable on a computer at this point, but neither of those should affect me since I have a 7800GT which has hardware decoder for it, correct?

As you can tell, I have a vague idea of what this is, so if someone can give me a basic breakdown or a link, and what software I need besides Fairuse to do encoding and then playback if MPC with ffdshow won't play it.

Thanks!

Nvidia offers a thirty day trial, so you can try it out if you want. I have it and 2/3 supposed applications that support HD acceleration (besides WMP), but not really sure if it works as its supposed to. I have the directx patch from microsoft, but my cpu is usually pegged out when playing HD, DVD's decode as they should however. On my system, I'm pretty sure the H.264 works with properly encoded avi'd, but mpeg-4 doesn't appear to work. Here are the links and tools I have/use/tested:

Drivers:

Purevideo:

Decoding (Nero encodes as well):

Haven't tried this but looks like it will work:http://www.cyberlink.com/oem/nVidia/0602/enu/index.jsp

Encoding:

Some content/specifications:

I also have ffdshow (Part of K-Lit Codec Package), so it gets complicated trying to figure what is doing what, especially with all the different file formats etc. I think I have to go back to basics and remove everything but the supported purevideo aplications and purevideo to really see if its working. I would love it if someone could show us what configuration nvidia was running at CES 2006 as seen here:http://www.anandtech.com/tradeshows/showdoc.aspx?i=2665&p=2

Thanks for the links. I'm already getting some of that. Will take me a while to do some encodes then check out the decoding and if Purevideo is doing its thing.

Odd though, hardly any discussion on this!
