What's this mean??

Some videos I open with WMP9 say that it has to acquire a license first. Is this a way for people to track down who's watching the videos?

Is it totally safe to get the license?

well I saw a movie in the theaters and I missed the first 15 mins, so I wanted to check it out. It's asking when I try to open the video up and I don't want them to think I'm stealing it.

I tried to open songs that my friend ripped in media player on her computer and it gave me the same message....is it some sort of copy protection where only the computer that rips the file can play it?? Just a guess...

There is an option to Protect Content, not sure what exactly it does.

WMP classic says "Failed to render the file" on both of the versions I downloaded. 🙁
