What's this Code Red virus do?

idea

Last night, still during all this stupid Code Red bullcrap, my HD kept putting out during sessions of Win2k. After 3 reboots, it crapped out upon loading Win2k. I put in a spare HD and I'm trying to save my files, but some areas of the HD freeze Explorer when I hit delete. Is this the virus or is it just me needing an RMA on my maxtor? I've never seen an HD give out just half way. It only gives me trouble when booting off it and deleting things. Anyone ever seen this? It's a Maxtor 30.7GB 7200RPM ATA66.

UPDATE: when removing C:\WINNT, it kept giving errors that the directory CSC is not empty. There is no C:\WINNT\CSC visibile. When I cd'd to it manually, it has a list of dirs that are empty named d1, d2, d3, .. d8. What the hell is going on with this thing?

Just format...makes for a better install afterwards anyway.

BTW, Code Red might affect your performance (it starts >99 threads), but it should be cleared by a reboot. Should NOT cause what you're seeing.

FWIW, W2K Pro, SP2 here. No such dir: winnt\csc. (hidden or normal).
