I'm out here from Seattle for the next 3 weeks for training. I'm staying in a hotel in Las Colinas, and the training center is in Irving. Just looking around, there doesn't seem to be a lot going on around here.

What are the good places to go eat? Which are the cool bars/pubs to hang out in for happy hour or to watch sports? Where should I be spending my free time?

Thanks in advance.

I would drive to Fort Worth or Dallas if you have the time, I dont think there is a whole lot around Las Colinas.

ridglea has been having money trouble for years, just before I move to KC they were having trouble with the landlord, as in the landlord might file for bankruptcy.

There's tons of stuff to do. Right in Las Colinas there are a lot of cool bars along the canal. Las Colinas is really a business district though. Are you staying at the Omni? It's a short drive into Dallas, where you can hit downtown for trendy bars\restaurants, midtown if you're into gay clubs and good food, and uptown if you're into the yuppy scene. I'd definitely try to get out of Irving though.

I'm a native Dallasite, so feel free to ask me any specific questions you have.

Yep, don't believe it is currently open. Think they are turning it into office space

if you follow the link I provided, they are still booking shows. They have shows listed until Feb of next year.

They had a couple of shows this past weekend.

What do you like to do OP? If its good food and sports bars you should be able to find that pretty close, If your looking for some nightlife the Dallas west end district is not far from you. If you looking for something more cultural or touristy give us a clue what your interested in and we can hook you up.

Like old west stuff? come to the stockyards in Ft. Worth. Amusement park? Water park? all that stuff is in Arlington on I30 halfway between Dallas and Ft. Worth also where the Ballpark is (Rangers intown against Detroit tuesday and wednesday) and the new Cowboys stadium.

Outdoorsman? You might like a trip to Bass pro shops in grapevine, or a trip to Cabellas super center in north fort worth near Texas Motor Speedway. Or if your a huge Nascar fan a tour of the Speedway might suit your fancy.

After that game last nightD:, there should be plenty of seats available for the home game against Da Bears this weekend :). I thing you can get the mezzanine SRO tickets for like $39 bucks, would be a good way to check out Jerryworld if your interested

Las Colinas is pretty straight forward business area. There's a lot of restaurants of various kinds up and down MacArthur from 114 up through/to 635. A lot of chain restaurants around the MA/635 area...and various others around MA/114.

Within the general/nearby area, you also have the Grapevine Mills area - outlet mall with movie theater and more chain restaurants. There's also the Gaylord Texan Resort down the street - The Glass Cactus is their nightclub/bar that overlooks the lake. Some great talent, especially cougars, but expect to get bent over for drinks.

If you're willing to venture out further - restaurant row is located in Addison off 635 & Dallas North Tollway. (You'll need to venture up DNT to Beltline) Beltline has restaurants (chain, unique) of every kind, so depends on your fancy. Plenty of bars - Dukes, (popular hangout, sometimes filled with bikers, great patio) Black Finn, (chicks) Sherlocks, (more chicks) Logans, etc. Addison is smoking though, FYI.

Further up the Tollway is the Shops at Legacy in Plano. Think of it as more refined and fancier. I tend to hang out at the Shops more than anywhere else - smoke free, plenty of good places to eat. Recently opened up The Gingerman there. (Great place for brews)

The "happening" spot in Dallas tends to be Uptown, where the $30 Thousand Dollar Millionaires tend to all live/hang out. The latest restaurants and bars of all kinds - it spans quite a large portion of the area around downtown.

If you're looking for downtown action but less pretentious/more lowkey, Deep Ellum is the place to go. It's slowly being revitalized - a few bars here and there...very artsy.

I saw many a spoonfed tribe show there:

http://spoonfedtribe.com/

Looks like the OP will be able catch at least one of their shows while he's in town, tho not at the ridglea. Highly recommended!

Very cool venue! They are trying to get the old building designated as a historic site. I think BOA owns the building now, and they have said they will preserve the facade of the building and old neon sign even if they do turn it into office space.

One of my favorite memories as a child was watching Snow white in that theatre in the early 60's, goodtimes

I remember seeing some art films there in the late 80's, early 90's before it was a music venue. one was "The Cook, The Thief, his wife and Her Lover". will never forget the ending of that one.

Dont be picking nits with me boy. Church is a place just like any other.

I'm probably older than you are, son. and he did not ask for a church. He asked for entertainment, not to prey to a figment of you imagination.
