z-nation and it is a syfy show
This, and it's decent. Better than I expected. It doesn't take itself
too seriously early on season 1, but it definitely has it's own take on the zombie apocalypse - it's not a The Walking Dead clone, which is what I partly expected going into it - though there are some similar scenarios that play out (which is true of most post-apocalyptic fiction).
I didn't take the presence of DJ Qualls as a good sign when I started watching because he's normally cast in mediocre/B-movie comedic roles (at least from what I've seen of him in the past) but he's not bad in Z-Nation. I lost hope in SyFy sometime after BSG concluded, but this show is worth watching.
You do have to lower or shift your expectations a bit if you are expecting The Walking Dead level of production and build up of drama. The pace of the plot is a bit faster - which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just different. It's like comparing filet mignon to sirloin.
