My GFs teen daughter worked all summer and wants to buy an iphone 5 but is on tmobile. I gave her a 3gs last year and got it JBed and unlocked for tmobile. I know the iphone 5's are unlocked but have they been proven to work on tmobile? I know the data will be slow but what about the new nano-sim, is there a workaround to get them usable on tmo? An eager 15 year old wants to know.

T-Mobile swaps out sims for nano-sims for free on request. Just go to one of their main retail stores (not a reseller). They seem particularly pleased to do this for iPhone customers in my experience here in Colorado.

As far as data, it's the usual thing and you'll get EDGE (~60kb/s), and by this time next year you should be starting to see 3G speeds showing up T-Mobile towers nationwide on the 1900MHz band and so 3G should start working... maybe sooner since you are in New York.

Yeah they love bringing iPhone people over. No fuss, no muss, no bs about unauthorized devices. I love Tmobile.

Yea the T-Mo store by the DD I stop at everyday before work has a street sign out front, it says something like "Device Unlocked" and it shows a picture of an iPhone.
