pickled watermelon.

Apparently, it is a southern delicacy found only at the Palma Ceia Country Club.

:p

Pine tree bark, Boy Scout camp:(. "Oh, it has a lot of fiber."

I got out of there fast.

Actually, some of those do actually taste like animal crackers (Hartz puts some of those out I believe), but don't ask me how I know.

Let's see, the international cuisine from my Army days........

Raw Octopus in the Sinai. Great with soy sauce. Especially after eating C Rations for 28 days.

Dog in Korea. Don't remember much of that one. Too intoxicated at the time.

Fried conch in Key West, FL, Raw conch again in the Sinai. Again, both were excellent with soy sauce.

Cooked Eel in Germany. It was OK.

Grilled Rattlesnake on numerous occasions. Lot's of bones. Not bad actually.

Gator tail and legs are good.

My favorite is freshwater turtle. Caught many while wading on the river in Kentucky. Awesome!

Freshwater turtle tastes like a blend of different meats. Fish, pork, beef and lamb. That's not just my opinion either. Many of my friends and relatives say the same thing.

It's good deep fried, grilled, broiled and even boiled. Low in fat and cholesterol. My cousin and I caught a whole lot of them once when I was in Louisville. There were many people I knew who enjoyed turtle.

You'll find most wild game such as turtle, venison, rabbit, quail and squirrel are lower in fat/cholesterol than domesticated meat.

I've had ostrich before, as well as ostrich eggs, buffalo pizza, and chocolate covered crickets and ants. I have to say, all of these items are quite tasty!

I've had emu and elk medallions served at two different restaurants. Both were pretty good.

Buffalo burgers out in Wyoming, I think.

Who knows what all I ate when I was in Hong Kong and South Korea (remembering the puppies in a small cage at the market in Seoul).

Oh, another thing. Fried dill pickles. Acutally pretty tasty. Served at a BBQ joint here in Atlanta.

Locutus, this is pretty standard fair in the Philippines. Spent 2 years there in the Peace Corps; dropped 42 pounds in 10 weeks.

Here are some other favorites:
- ketsup made from bananas
- a salt seasoning made from fish eggs that have let rot then been preserved w/salt
- a favorite drink that is made with sugar cane wine and the intestinal juices of a cow or pig

There are some really good ones though.
- upland rice that is red and so sweet it's nearly like eatting toffee
- grilled pork that is seasoned with v. hot peppers, fresh ginger, and little red onions. need lots of rice and beer for this

I could go on, but I get homesick whenever I think about it too much :(, they became my family and I still miss them.

Bear, moose, caribou . . . (it doesn't taste like chicken).

Sushi experiences included live shrimp that was still twitching as you ate it. Surprisingly good.

However, I am a strict vegetarian now. I would have to say wheatgrass juice is weird. Many years ago I tasted peyote - weird beyond belief and the taste is awful.

EDIT: Poi is strange. In Brazil they make a sweet desert from avocados (basically avocados, sugar and lemon).

I ate an awful pizza @ the Old Post Office in Washington, DC. Americans don't know how to make a good pizza.
