Move to Nashville - Almost no one who lives in the city is from TN. Tons of people fled here to Nissan and others when the US auto industry crashed (like myself). Lots of people from CA here too.

ive driven through there once, it actually did seem pretty nice

There is? Never seen any bad blood, but the history and memorials are pretty cool to see. Saw several Civil War battlefields when I was a kid vacationing/Driving through that area.

After I finally take my Revolutionary War tour, a Civil War tour will be next.

not kidding, a friend of mine moved to virginia for a while and got ridiculed and belittled many times and accosted several times by people who demanded he move "back to the union"

and i dont want to have the same thing happen to me, i dont know if i could handle such asbuse

Don't take this wrong, but is your friend a jackass? I've lived in quite a few places, union and non union. And if I didn't live there, I've travelled to most. People treat me the way I treat them.

I recently moved to CT from the midwest and everyone told me "they're different up there, they're rude, they're not as friendly, they're stand-offish, etc, etc, etc". Not true. Everyone's been absolutely great. Just like people were in Missouri, Kansas, Alabama, North Carolina, Minnesota, Texas, Florida, etc, etc, etc.

But, I'm a pretty friendly guy, so maybe it's just me.

Should have moved to Northern VA. Lived there for the first 18 years of my life and it's awesome. But even then I've been around the rest of the state more times than I can count, and I've never encountered such attitudes.

Your friend probably saw a confederate flag bumper sticker on the back of some redneck's truck and went ZOMG RACISTS ABOUND I'M GONNA TELL THEM HOW WRONG THEY ARE! Yes, there is an extreme minority element that will tell you to "go back to the union" and such bullshit, but as I said, living in Virginia for 18 years I never interacted with it or was in a situation where I had to interact with it. Methinks your friend started it.

i would not disagree that my life is absurd

but thats why im trying desperetly to change it

changing people, places and things will not help. Nouns are not what makes your life what it is. Verbs are. Take some action and change what you do and how you do it.

Depressing in the winter, yes. Come up in late summer sometime. Or fall. Michigan is awesome in the fall.

Most of the cold states are awesome in the fall. Unfortunately, it is only fall for about 6 weeks. The rest of the time it sucks balls.

I'm from upstate NY and my Mom grew up near Grand Rapids, MI so I've spent quite a bit of time there over the years (exaggerating a bit of course). My Mom's family had an old farmhouse and we spent Thanksgiving there one year before they sold it with my Grandmother before she died. Great memories. There's still no fucking way I'd ever move there though. :D

Yeah, it was pretty depressing when you were here.

When is the last time you were depressed?

Maryland/DC/Northern VA. Fairly mild winters and mild summers (lows in winter around 20-25F, highs in summer around 85-90F)

You must really live in a bubble. I could name several spots in "liberal" union states that you could get ridiculed or belittled in.

Go outside more.

im sick and tired of living in the cold! so i am looking at moving to a warmer state. but i dont want to go to a state that was in the confederacy, just too much history and bad blood there which i dont want to get involved with. what is the warmest state i can go to that was part of the union?

So the former Confederate states are out but you have no problem with any Native American "bad blood" or "history"? Just want to make sure I have your parameters correct before I make a suggestion.

Just like Atlanta's "the Yankee capital of The South." Almost nobody was born there. Hot, but still gets uncomfortably cold most years. Nothing like the salt truck and snow plow northern states though.

My vote goes to San Diego. Less expensive than Hawaii and rains less. Less temperature variation year-round than any other populous city and far from being a redneck area.

yep.

Now, CalifornE is the place ye aughta be. (anyone that gives you a reason they don't want to live in California is just making excuses for not being good-enough to live there)

But if not, then here in las cruces we get an average of 3 inches of snow a year and it sticks to the ground for all of 1/2 a day. The 100degree heat feels like 80degrees on the gulf-coast.
