What's the UPS 'Manifest Pickup' means?

I won an eb@y auction. The seller shipped the item to me on 12/4/00 and scheduled delivery is 12/7/00. Of course I haven't received it as of today 12/8/00.

This is the only activity shows on UPS tracking system:
Date///Time///Location///Activity
Dec 4, 2000///10:01 P.M.///US///PICKUP MANIFEST RECEIVED

I called UPS and they said Manifest Pickup means the seller started a pickup but still haven't picked up yet, which means the seller haven't shipped the item.

Well, I emailed the seller and here is what he replied:
"Manifest mean still in their loading location. which they deliver anytime they want. If I haven't ship out the case, how do they get the tracking # from me?"

Please tell me who's cheating on me? Is it the seller or the UPS CSR?

If you have a tracking number,it is the carriers responsibility to deliever it. If you are not getting co operation from the vendor, thats a different matter.

Stay on top of the UPS CSR.

My former company used to ship everything via UPS, and quite a few times, a package has been delivered and it still says Manifest Pickup. I especially love it when we give a customer a tracking number and it doesn't even show up in their systems. And a few days later, they get the package but it still doesn't show up in their systems.

wjones,

If it's showing up in their tracking system, it HAS been picked up. It doesn't get in there until the driver scans the pickup summary and the shipping label.

Oh ya, the end of day.

I remember something happened to the UPS software (it's so crappy) and the EOD's were comming out with say 50 packages count on the sheet, but if you look at the detail report that printed, and counted it, it comes up with a higher number. It wasn't very fun trying to convince the pickup guy to load all the packages...

Tripleshot, yes, i've a tracking number. I thought someone can print out a shipping label with tracking number if he/she has UPS account (that kind of UPS label on the box that we receive from buy.com)?

gittyup, the seller has over 200 positive feedbacks. But he delay the shipment for about 1 week and gave me a stupid explaination. He said paypal put a pending logo on my payment, which signal him to wait until the payment clear. I paid him via paypal using my paypal balance!!!!!!!!! (i've over $300 in paypal balance and the item is just $40).

Where I work, we have a dedicated computer set up for UPS. It has special UPS software, a scale connected, a modem to dial up UPS, and a label printer.
We can start the process by using the computer to weigh the package and print the label. The modem can send the info to the UPS tracking system. At this point, the Manifest Pickup would show up if you tried to track it. It means that the shipper wants it picked up, but it doesn't mean it's picked up yet. If this guy doesn't have a setup like we do, I don't know how Manifest Pickup shows up.

I dunno, I'm not a UPS expert. The guys in the warehouse handle the UPS and shipping stuff, but I've picked up a few things from talking to them.

I have found that UPS doesn't always scan the package every step of the way...they USUALLY do, but not always.

Hopefully you will get the package today....if not you might call UPS and ask about it.
