The reason being is that when i sometimes post something or someone else posts something that interests me, alot of you(who are mostly from US) reccommend Radio Shack for parts, which is no good for me as im in the UK. So whats the UK`s equivelent of Radio Shack?

They're called Tandy. They certainly used to sell a number of parts marked 'radio-shack'.

I haven't seen a store for years actually - I don't even know if they're still trading. I never bought anything from them, as they were grossly overpriced and sold nothing of use (apart from some low quality CB kit, and music equipment). The staff were also invariably clueless, despite a massive advertising campaign about how knowledgable their staff were, and how they prided themselves on answering your questions.

Maplin is probably a better comparison - they sell a wide variety of stuff - from consumer or more eclectic electronic devices, PC parts, DJ type equipment, and individual electronic components and development equipment. They are very expensive (ludicrously so for computer equipment), but have a relatively efficient mail-order service and a website that works (albeit not very good), as well as numerous high-street shops.

MarkR is right, Maplin has catastrophic prices for computer components (but they have a decent selection). I found their electronics parts to be reasonably priced, though.

If mail-order (over the internet or phone) is acceptable, give RS components a try:

RS is more of an industrial supplier, but are very efficient (and can even offer same-day delivery for orders placed before mid-morning), and have an enormous selection of electronic components, and professional equipment - much of which is of premium quality. Their web site and online-ordering system is excellent, with detailed pictures and desctiptions, full pricing information, and plenty of technical information.

They are a primarily a business supplier, and their prices are high - but it's a pleasure to order from them, because they are so efficient. They offer trade counters where you can collect an order (fax it over) and collect an hour later - but these are only open to bona fide business customers.

Farnell (http://www.farnell.co.uk) are also excellent and highly efficient, with a phenomenal selection of electronic and industrial components. They are quite happy to sell to anybody, and take orders online. Their online catalogue is not good, and you'll be grateful for getting hold of their free catalogue - phone the number on their website.
