I enter the ftp.whatever.com and it connects fine. Then after a few more BS questions it ask for the directory which is usually something like /pub/suse/i386/9.3/ and thats where the problem is. I've tried like 5 different FTPs and everyone of them comes back with Error while accessing the FTP server file not found on server.

Can you spawn an ftp session in another window and check the path is correct? Or check it from another PC?

Found one. In the README.txt:
Additional note:
The complete SUSE Linux 9.3 FTP distribution is being worked on and will
be made available in this directory.

So maybe it hasn't made it out just yet...

I had a tough time finding a mirror. What I always do is this:
Boot to the install CD (I guess I should point out this is for 9.2 Professional)
Scroll to "Install"
and then type in at the bottom: linux26 install="http://suse.cbn.net.id/i386/9.2

That path and method works consistently for me.

Edit:
Oh I didn't notice you were trying 9.3. I think that's currently only available using the LiveCD or LiveDVD option.

Looks like your right. Didn't notice it last night but the 9.3 directorys are missing a lot of stuff that the 9.2s have. Guess I will try 9.2 and see I can get that to work. Thats what happens when you try to install linux at 5am :).

Installing 9.2 worked a little better :). Took me about 4 hours to get it to boot totally off my usb hardrive but I finally did it. What a pain in the ass. Everytime I would fix one problem it was on to the next.

Installing on a USB drive is a bit unorthodox. It isn't surprising you would have a few issues. Should be a lot of fun though.:D

I am using it at work and don't want it to affect their computer in anyway hence the USB drive. Mandrake 10.1 worked right out of the box but sofar thats the only one that has. I used it to get comfortable with linux and after screwing it up beyond repair thought I would try something else. Just had to play with the initrd stuff to load all the usb junk and tweak grub's menu.lst.
