Whats the sweet spot for a budget AMD?

I'm a little new to the amd world and get a little confused with all the different socket types. I'm looking for what a sweet spot would be for a mid to budget AMD processor. I would like a little life in the socket and a little be future proof. I would hate to pick a processor but find that the socket would go obsolete as soon as i bought it?

Things to look for:
Sweet spot for AMD Processor? (best bang for your buck in that range)
A socket that was little bit future proof?
Mid range to budget range cost?

Thanks in advance.

Hahahhahaha

Sorry, I have to laugh :) Not at you, just at the given situation. I mean I would have said S939 and get a 3000+ Venice, but with M2 just around cornor we'll see a decline of 939'ers in the upcoming year.

An overclocked Venice 3000+ S939. I heard that the E3 stepping overclocks better than E6.

I'd say an Opteron 144 or 146 and an ASRock Dual SATAII mother board. The AM2 riser card will allow you to upgrade your cpu without buying a new board.
