what's the stuff in nyquil that knocks you out?

I know it's got acetominophen, pseudophedrine, dxm, and doxylamine succinate. Acetominophen has no drowsiness side effects (I have never been drowsy after using tylenol), pseudophedrine is a stimulant, DXM doesnt make one drowsy (does it?), and i dont know about doxylamine succinate. So what causes the extreme drowsiness?

Nyquil ingredients

Looks like Doxylamine is the cause. The alcohol in nyquil intensifies the drowsiness.

Yeah me too. But 10% alcohol in 2tbsp solution will do nothing. Doxylamine seems to be correct.

Am I the only person that suffers from insomnia when taking Nyquil? Dayquil, on the other hand, knocks me out cold.

You must confuse the bottles. 😉 DayQuil and NyQuil are the same thing except for the fact that NyQuil has doxylamine succinate, a sedative.

Although, NyQuil does cause "excitability"

Beats me, but all I know is that I take it and the next thing I know it's 12 hours later and the sun is out. Maybe it has something to do with a flux capacitor, the thing that makes time travel possible?

Nyquil doesn't knock me out, but it does make me sleepy.

Besides Nyquil is there anything over the counter that will make/help you sleep at night?

DXM is a pretty strong disassociative. I don't know what else is in nyquill but DXM will put you out assuming you don't take so much that you start to trip.

Take a benydryl 1 hour before taking nyquil....hehehhe
