What's the state of "VR goggles" these days?

I did some googling, but could only find old ugly goggles with pitiful resolutions.

Hasn't this technology matured at all since around 2000?

I'd like to have a pair, preferably with built in 3d (which should be easy to do), with large FOV and high resolution. But I'm guessing no such product exists. :\

Seriously, these are the best I've found. And they stink!

http://www.vuzix.com/iwear/products_wrap920ar.html

  • 1/3-inch wide VGA Digital Image Sensor
  • Resolution: 752H x 480W per lens
  • Frame rate: 60 fps (at full resolution)
  • Dynamic range: >55dB linear; >80-100dB in HiDy mode
  • Video output: 1504 x 480 side-by-side
  • Shutter efficiency: >99%
  • ADC resolution: 10-bit column-parallel
  • High-speed USB 2.0
  • PC and Mac compatible
  • System requirements: WindowsXP SP2, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS X 10.4.9 or higher
  • Supported by Vuzix Software Developer Program

I must be missing something.

vr goggles wont be widely sought until after this whole 3d tv/monitor bubble bursts.

3d vr goggles are a 100 times better than the current active filtering glasses + 120hz displays now available, but no one is pursuing it because it is a niche application.

once transparent oleds and realtime augmented reality cameras software become common, the concept of vr should come back. WiDi and oled low power requirements should eliminate the clunky wires of an nvidia3d type solution.
