Anyone have a Single 1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480.

What is the fan sound like? Is it loud, if so does it run loud all the time? Is there a setting to down clock it etc.. make it quiet during everyday use.

All of the reviewers are liars. It's actually a quiet card.

With that said though, there are some that are quieter than others. Look around at the reviews for some with custom coolers that are more effective.

At idle, it will be quiet. At load, above 70% it's annoying and pretty loud.

Noise aside, there are better alternatives. If you don't mind dual cards, 5850 CF or GTX460 SLI are just as cheap as a single GTX480 and are faster (and quieter). Overclocked to 900mhz, dual GTX460s will beat just about anything, including a 5970.

Considering HD6870 and higher are going to launch within 2 months, it may not be a great idea to spend $400+ on a graphics card.

If you do intend to get a 480, I advise to get one with aftermarket cooling in place.

The amount of noise Fermi puts out got entirely blown out of proportion. While its by no means quiet, it only turns into a leaf blower under furmark type load. Its very comparable to a 4890 and roughly half the noise in idle.

for those of us with quiet cards like the gtx260, a gtx480 is painfully loud and annoying during gaming. even the gtx470 I used was very annoying during gaming so I could not even imagine dealing with a gtx480 on a daily basis. saying its not much louder than a 4890 doesn't make it seem any better because that card was known for being loud too. some of you people will put up with just about anything I guess but not me.

how much quieter would you say the Dual 1GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 - SLI Enabled is compared to the single GTX480?

if you don't oc them much then they'll be extremely quiet. I set up a custom fan profile in afterburner for my gtx 460, it stays very quiet even at 880/4300 under heavy gaming load. furmark is the only thing that gets the fan spooled up enough to be noticeable over ambient for me.

It also looks like HD6770 will come in around GTX470~5870 level of performance. 2 of those at $250 a piece (unconfirmed price) will give GTX480 a beating of a lifetime. Just 1 month to wait.

I will second that. Only real complaint other than it's price was the heat that it put out, even at idle. Made the whole room much warmer... and that is compared to a 4890 Toxic.
that makes no sense at all because at idle its producing less heat than a 4890.

Your talking about an entirely different card bryan. Try OCing a GTX480 to those clocks, if even doable and see how that goes with any fan profile..lol

The GTX460 is a great card but it doesnt look like the OP is considering upper midrange
