What's the software that will tell you which

I have an unbranded burner and want to see if any firmware updates are available.

Everest Home Edition should be able to tell you the drive manufacturer and model number. You might also try checking out DVDinfo.

ok.. tried Everest and here are my 2 drives. 1st one is a CD burner, 2nd is a DVDROM/CD Burner combo. Can you guys help me decipher?

Found this info on the ASPI page

yes.. i googled it, but rec'd most pages in Chinese.. also, my mobo is Aopen, so I didn't know if it was getting confused.

000J is listed as one firmware version, so I think that might be the right one.

Other option - open the PC and look at the labels on the drives. Even drives that don't have labels on the front usually have something informative on the top of the casing.

As for that other drive, the thing with Aopen in the info string, don't know. Look for other labels or markings on the entire drive.

Just be sure that it's the right firmware for the drive. Otherwise, you might have a brain dead drive that's not able to figure out how to load another firmware. Translation - you'd need to get a new drive.
