Works for me, it has to be done from within the folder where you want to create the new sub-folder. (WinXP Pro)

Um, it works.

Not for me: Win XP Pro.

works for me. goes
alt-f brings up File menu (or you can press alt, then f)
then w is for new
f is for Folder

Ah. That is why it failed for cjgallen and I. We probably both tried it from the desktop. Alt-f fails there. Atl-f also fails in the most useful place for a keyboard shortcut - within a 'save as' window. So it only works in limited and less useful cases.

My method works on the desktop and inside a 'save as' window.
