Whats the scoop on the console front? Are they going to drop in price before Xmas?

Last I heard was "possibly" a week or two ago, but no news since then. Any idea if they are going to drop any further? I would like to buy an X-Box and GC eventually, but I am in no rush.

I wouldn't think either of these will drop significantly, but there has already been endless speculation here about a price reduction to $150 for PS2 and Xbox. I imagine they might reduce the official price of the Xbox to $150, since it is already available with two games and the DVD kit for $200.

i would expect to happen after christmas instead of before unless they're seeing lackluster sales. Then again, i don't know too much about economics

Doubtful but if you want one now just get BB to pricematch it later. I think you have 30 days if the price ends up dropping.

I think sales are doing well enough that they don't need to drop the price. They'll sell a ton of systems for Christmas at the current prices, which actually aren't too bad IMO.

The "holiday price drops" are the bundle offers. XBox offers a couple of games for the price of a base system, Nintendo has rebates if you buy a console with Metroid or Super Mario and a memory card, and Sony doesn't have to do anything since it's still got over 75% of the market.

Also, game companies aren't going to announce price drops until they happen. Announcing it would just delay people buying them until it actually dropped. Sony has a history of saying "We are not going to drop prices" right up until the day before they drop them.

But, I'd have to agree with most people here...prices probably aren't going to drop until after Christmas. Bundles and rebates are good values this year if you need what is included. That certainly sweetens the deal over what prices have been the past year. I'd speculate around March or April you might see another price drop after inventory is back to regular levels and sales are starting to sag.
