Whats the scoop on the Antec SP-500 PSU?

Hello everyone,
Recently my system has been resetting at random times, and for a while I suspected IRQ and/or driver problems. After doing some research the idea that my PSU could be going bad replaced my previous best idea about what could be going wrong...I was using an Antec 350 watt PSU that is about 3 years old and worked well enough in my overclocked and often exerted system. So today I purchased the Antec SmartPower 2.0 500 watt PSU and "Presto!" my system seems back to normal. My concern is that I bought this one without reading or researching about this particular model, I was just putting my faith in the Antec name and my satisfaction with my old Antec. Anyways, who has owned one and/or heard about my model? All reports welcomed.

Well, since you bought it I would say use it if it works. I'm using an Antec 'true power' 380w (supposed to be one notch up in quality from the 'smart power' line) that came with the Antec Sonata case (very good case for $$$ IMO). If it starts acting up, as the previous poster's was, then look to replace it with a Seasonic, Silverstone, or Enermax PSU. They all have reasonably priced, quality PSUs.
Many folks around here have horror stories about Antec PSUs. Many (like me) have been using them without problems. I hestate to replace anything that works well and meets my needs, just because of a few bad reports. Remember, Antec sells a ton of PSUs,. There are bound to be a few bad apples in there.

Keep it. Just upgrade your cooling a bit if you want this PSU to last longer then 2 years. Just fill all of your fan slots with high-powered fans and a decent HSF for your CPU. The SPs are prone to heat because of their Fuhjyyu caps.

Im currently using two 80mm chassis fans, one drawing from the front and the other exhales out the back....plus I run the AC full blast when Im trying to blow my computer up.....which brings me to another topic completely: Can having multiple fans create more heat from the power they require than the fans can dissipate?

I have an Antec SP500, which I have been using for the past few months, and I have had no problem with it, although I did get a bad one before, which I returned to the store. I don't know about dBTelos's remark about them being subject to heat, because the rear exhaust fan doesn't turn on unless the heat gets too high, and I have never seen it running yet. So far, I'm happy with it.

I would say even Antec SP450 is better than 500. 500 has a max of 25A @ 25C on 12V lines.

19A + 17A but total of 300 watts = 25A

I don't think the 450 model has that restriction.
