What's the safest/easiest way to mod a PS2?

I want to be able to play backups on my PS2 and imports would be nice too. I have already lost one or two games to scratches and it makes me sick :(

You get sick seeing . . . scratches on CDs?

I think you have a problem, and it goes deeper than modding a PS2 . . .. :p

Find someone to do it for you:) One bit of advice; don't start a mod and have someone else finish it.

Well it's not the scratches on games that makes me sick it's the scratches that cause them not to work. Not interested in buying a pre-modded one since I already have a regular PS2. Is there any way to do it without soldering and that scary stuff? Perhaps some type of boot-disc? I want to be able to play imports as well so being more careful isn't really a solution, but I am going to from now on anyhow hehe.

I think all the full featured modchips are still solder only, and the PS2 is like the hardest console to solder contact point wise.

well rats that sucks..guess I'll just have to live without imports/backups..maybe they will come out with some type of program that can do the trick.
