What's the safest/easiest way to mod a PS2?

I want to be able to play backups on my PS2 and imports would be nice too. I have already lost one or two games to scratches and it makes me sick

I think you have a problem, and it goes deeper than modding a PS2 . . ..

Well it's not the scratches on games that makes me sick it's the scratches that cause them not to work. Not interested in buying a pre-modded one since I already have a regular PS2. Is there any way to do it without soldering and that scary stuff? Perhaps some type of boot-disc? I want to be able to play imports as well so being more careful isn't really a solution, but I am going to from now on anyhow hehe.

I think all the full featured modchips are still solder only, and the PS2 is like the hardest console to solder contact point wise.

i modded my xbox with a solderless modchip... for imports and backups.. right..

well rats that sucks..guess I'll just have to live without imports/backups..maybe they will come out with some type of program that can do the trick.
