I wanna paint the floors in my apartment. After ripping up the old carpet, I dicsovered that the floor is cheap plywood.

Should I use oil based or another type?

thanks

How big is this apartment? you can get some cheap carptes from a carpet place or somewhere like Home depot if you don't mind taking the leftover stuff. Sometimes they have partial rolls of carpet that they cant sell, so they drop the price big time to dump it....

The apt is pretty big. I put down cheap tiles in the kitchen from HomeDepot. It would take a lot of carpet to cover all this wood. Plus my landlord offered me cash to move out last time I signed a lease. If he ups the offer I might take it next time around. I have here for another year and wanna make it nicer cheaply.

It is standard practice to put plywood down for floors intended to be covered with carpeting. You DO NOT want to paint the floor and walk on it. Paint is not made for that. Look for carpeting sales after conventions, etc in your area. They sell the carpet they use for conventions cheap as opposed to throwing it away.

He would make 2 studios from this one flat and get more for each than he now gets from me. Plus he could pass on some of the costs of the renovations to the new renters. In this building there are only a couple of apts left like this one. The studios are ridiculiously (sp) small. I was thinking of offering to take a half for reduced rent or hold out till he ups the ante.
